One of the best "new to me music" of 2012 is a recording that I used to laugh at when I read about it. The recording is the Loggins & Messina show from Kansas City in 1972 that Betty Cantor-Jackson recorded. I'd seen that show listed among the Betty Board recordings and it caught my eye because I live near KC and Loggins & Messina just didn't seem to fit with the rest of the Betty Boards. The sound is great (of course) and the musical content is addictively good.

The best "new to me music" of 2012 that happened in 2012 are a couple of shows that I saw/recorded and are current 'Staff Picks' here on the LMA:
